Installing the Stuntex Radiator Frame
Radiators on sport bikes are aluminum. Their mounting lugs break off fairly quickly from the shocks of crashes. Repairs or reinforcement don't help, and over time the welds crack. The only option professionals use is fitting a steel bracket (frame). The main requirements for this protection are lightness and compactness. Excessive strength isn't needed, but being able to keep the stock fairings, covers and wiring in their standard places is very useful if the stunt bike is used with fairings.
When projects to build stunt bikes based on the 2009+ ZX6R appeared, we decided to make our own frame that would suit us in quality and design.
Since we needed to prepare motorcycles both with and without fairings, we had to come up with the most compact frame possible that would fit without modifying the fairings. We considered the best option to be laser-cut plates that follow the radiator geometry as closely as possible. High-strength bolts were used for the joints, two at each joint. This design can be installed without completely removing the radiator or disconnecting the hoses. When fitting the upper mounts, it's advisable to keep the stock bushings with their washers torn off, so as not to overtighten the lugs. The frame lets you keep the stock expansion tank, which is well placed on this model.
