Manual Tire Change with Zip Ties
At training sessions you often need to change the rear tire quickly and easily. It isn't always possible to go to a tire shop. Changing a tire with tire levers isn't easy, and in a hurry you can damage the rim. An alternative method is shown in the video.
Removing the old tire
To remove the tire, first deflate it (unscrew the valve core) and break the bead. This is very easy to do with a shovel. The tire has to be squeezed together with zip ties. 4 zip ties are enough. After lubricating the tire beads with soapy water, you can pull it off by hand with some effort. To do this, twist the tire at one point in the direction of removal. In the video Boris had an old, rock-hard 190 tire, so it didn't come off right away, and he didn't want to struggle on camera. As you can see, the tire comes off easily with a tire lever. After removing the tire, it is important to clean the rim and bead seats.
Fitting the new tire
The new tire goes on the same way: squeeze it with zip ties in several places and pull it onto the rim with effort. The direction of rotation is marked with an arrow. It is important to lubricate the beads generously with soapy water. The tire is easy to fit by pressing it down with your feet. Before removing the zip ties, turn the tire so that the valve lines up with the yellow dot. After removing the zip ties, the tire can no longer be turned.
Inflation
Tire shops inflate the wheel with a high-pressure compressor, so the tire seats by itself. With an ordinary pump this won't work. To seat the tire, squeeze it with a ratchet strap. Everyone who transports a motorcycle on a trailer or in a van has one. You can screw in the valve core before inflating. If the tire doesn't seat, tap it where it isn't sitting well. Once the tire has seated, remove the ratchet strap and inflate it to working pressure!
The whole process is shown in the video. Stunt bike wheels aren't balanced, so the wheel went straight back on the motorcycle. After changing a tire this way a few times, you will be able to do it quickly and easily in the future.
