Marat Kankadze Lessons: King Kong

The «King Kong» is a trick for pros, for those who can already ride on the rear wheel straight and in circles and have a certain set of combos. Its difficulty lies not only in balance but also in the fact that not every rider's flexibility allows them to swing their leg up like that while keeping control of the controls and the motorcycle as a whole.

I started practicing this trick in the gym, imitating the position in stretching classes. About 25 master classes of one hour each significantly improved my overall flexibility and stretch. By that time I had long been doing various circle combos freely, and standing on one leg while circling wasn't a problem, but as soon as I swung my other leg up onto the front fender, I immediately lost control and balance.

As usual, knowing that I needed a lot of repetitions, I switched on «robot racer» mode and did the same thing over many training sessions until I fully got used to the new position and gained full control. Along the way it turned out that more flexibility is needed than just to swing your leg up. You need enough flexibility to put your foot on the fender easily, without feeling tension or stiffness.

Wide jeans that let you do the «King Kong» are another important aspect of this trick. Looking ahead in a motocross helmet with a peak while doing this trick is extremely difficult, so I had to get used to riding almost blind. I had such difficulties with the peak in various tricks, but I consider removing the peak from a motocross helmet not a very stylish solution.

And speaking of style, every self-respecting stunt rider should pay attention to how they look, how their motorcycle looks and how stylish their tricks look. So don't rush: take time to stretch, ride, take photos, look at your photos and make sure your «King Kong» is big and looks beautiful and stylish!

And remember: a sober head, patience, hard training, courage and a full set of riding gear will give you the result you want! Good luck!
